Jandaz, the Statistics of Shame

Farms of Shame has received an  email from Number Cruncher which gives a breakdown of Janice Griffiths’ poodle breeding from  2004 to 2007 when most of her litters were registered and for the price of kennel club publication anyone could find out how often her bitches were bred and how many dogs she had in her kennels. In the same period Janice Griffiths also registered Jandaz German Shepherd Dogs, Jandaz Rottweilers, Jandaz Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Jandaz Cocker Spaniels and Jandaz Pomeranians. Since 2007 most of the breeding at Jandaz Cockapoos and Toy Poodle puppy factory has been of poodle cross breeds.

I found the Jandaz Poodle Breeding record very interesting.

Jandaz 48 months poodle breeding

32 Poodle litters were born during 2006, 20 litters in 2007. All registered with the Kennel Club and so the information can be verified. Let us not forget that this is an account of the Poodle litters and other breeds were also being sold during this time and so the total number of litters born each year may be higher.

One toy poodle bitch, Little Black Sambo, is recorded as giving birth to 6 litters. The last 4 reported litters were born in the space of two years, with births in January 2005, September 2005, June 2006 and January 2007.

Many other bitches produced litters in back to back seasons.  For example, Harriet Hopeful produced a litter in November 2006 and then again in July 2007, Windanna Goldenflake at Forestflame gave birth in February 2005, November 2005 and then again in September 2006, Kenmillen Roxanne in September 2006 and May 2007.  Similar back to back litters for Chocolate Orange, Alexhian My Foxy Lady, Jandaz Fabulous, Bonnierose Cuddly Joy, Sunday Smile, Jandaz Black Charity and Jandaz Cream Puff.  I appreciate that mistakes can happen but for the mistakes to happen so frequently I must question the level of care has been shown to these breeding bitches.

During June and July 2006, 8 litters were born.  During September, October and November of the same year, a further 10 litters were born.  Are we expected to believe that all of these puppies can be home reared and socialised as has been claimed?

One final question – Why the change from breeding pedigree dogs?

As cross-breeds are not registered by the KC, it’s easy to understand the attraction of breeding cockapoos and explains why the puppies advertised on the Jandaz website do not name each mother. It not just those that post on Farms of Shame who seek to hide behind anonymity!

Good grief! All those back to back and under age litters are against the law. Did that skinny tiny toy poodle have cockapoo puppies as well? Poor little thing 😦

    • Stoppuppyfarming Youtube Channel says:

Of course breeding twice in 12 months is against the law, the KC would register anything whether the litter was illegal or not, they do not make the law of the land.
So this was another of your lies then? Posted 2007. http://web.archive.org/web/20070429003819/http://www.jandazcockapoos.co.uk/
“i breed only once a year from my ladies and do not agree with people selling cockapoos that are really 3/4 poodle and 1/4 spaniel and calling them COCKAPOOS !!! ”

Ubique, are you certain that this is Janice Griffiths (Jandaz) herself who has in effect just put her hands up and said “Guilty M’Lud”?

  2. janice griffiths says:

The kennel club bought the ruling in about back to back breeding only a few years ago, so i was not breaking the law. That poodle picture is not mine but my friends and the puppies were poodles not cockapoos

    • Back to back breeding is and was against UK law. The photo appeared on your website.

      • janice griffiths says:

NOW it is yes, but not back then! if it was the kennel club law, then why did they register my puppies??? The Kennel Club legal department are looking in to your claims & your Documents as you say this info came from the kennel club’The picture is not mine, The poodle is not mine, and the puppies not mine, yet you make it up and say under the photo, Jandaz silver toy poodle? You keep saying you have proof Let’s see the proof that this photo was on my website? Or are you going to edit it like you have edited a lot of the facts ,of which i have all copies from 2007 and 2008 Labradoodle forum. And not the same as the original posts on the forum! Also lots been removed in the past few weeks why? We all know why!

I will not be reacting to any more cyber bullying and libellous slanderous Remarks, Its now in the hands of xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx so go for it I would Rather Spend my time with my Dogs & grandchildren then hiding behind a screen jan x

      • Shame-on-Farms / Mills says:

Given that Janice Griffiths of Jandaz Cockapoos was not a licensed breeder she has committed several legal offences (let alone unethical and immoral – 4 litters to a single bitch over a 2 year period !!!). Anyone can contact Ceredigion County Council and under the Freedom Of Information Act can ask if Janice owns a “Pet Shop License” which would be needed to allow her to advertise for sale and sell any puppy not bred nor owned by herself and as she often advertises other people’s puppies openly on the Jandaz website (to this day) then there is an argument that she should own such a license – she does not.

Her Breeding License was issued on the 1/11/2007 and is for 30 bitches. Not only was the number of litters bred each year illegal as she was not covered by a license she also registered 32 litters in 2006 (add unregistered Cockapoo litters onto that number and you get the picture !) Criminal.

Number Cruncher are you able to supply us with the number of litters registered to the KC for the past 20 odd years that Janice claims to have been a breeder ?
Add on the number of unregistered Cockapoo litters to these numbers and Janice Lesley Griffiths has financially been doing very well………..I wonder how much love, affection, commitment and care those dogs and their puppies got 😦

    • Shame-on-Farms / Mills says:

Given that Janice Griffiths has clearly and openly admitted back to back breeding over a number of years with a number of bitches and Ubique has confirmed it to be from Janice Griffiths of Jandaz Cockapoos then this information can be shared on other sites and forums without legal ramifications !

    • poodlelover says:

Breeding back to back has always been against law and license conditions. Shame on you!

      • Stoppuppyfarming Youtube Channel says:

Jandaz and her daughter’s Rivaz kennels were banned many years ago from the Champdogs pedigree dog site, there were too many complaints.

  3. A Tree says:

    for Janice
As a giant scale commercial breeder and proven puppy farmer you should become acquainted with the law.
    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1999/11
    Licence conditions.

(1)In subsection (4) of section 1 of the 1973 Act (matters to which a local authority shall have regard in determining whether to grant a licence and about which conditions must be included in the licence), in paragraph (b) (dogs to be visited at suitable intervals, so far as necessary), omit “(so far as necessary)”.

(2)In that subsection, after paragraph (e) insert—

    “(f)that bitches are not mated if they are less than one year old;

    (g)that bitches do not give birth to more than six litters of puppies each;

(h)that bitches do not give birth to puppies before the end of the period of twelve months beginning with the day on which they last gave birth to puppies; and

(i)that accurate records in a form prescribed by regulations are kept at the premises and made available for inspection there by any officer of the local authority, or any veterinary surgeon or veterinary practitioner, authorised by the local authority to inspect the premises;”,

  4. C Ader says:

Why do the Kennel Club not do something about this kind of farming? Surely if they were about the health of dogs – all dogs – then they should register cross breeds too and stop this from happening?

If they won’t do it, isn’t there somewhere else that could keep a register? The government? Local councils? RSPCA?

  5. Anti-puppy farms / factories says:

The way Jandaz operates is quite sickening, all those litters and so many bitches bred back to back, poor things. As a breeder, Janice Griffiths, you were surely well aware of the UK breeding law – irrespective of the fact that it is illegal, to breed bitches back to back or underage is just so wrong.

    • Julia says:

I don’t know what the other Doodles or crossbreds do, but The Cockapoo Club of GB started a breeder inspection protocol in 2012. For those breeders that comply with the CCGB Code of Ethics, minimum mandatory health testing, can show they will breed ethically and the inspector can see that the dogs love the breeder and the breeder loves their dogs will gain Approved Breeder status. These Approved Breeders can register their Cockapoo puppies and the new owners will receive a three generation lineage certificate which included the pups microchip number and details, plus the details of the parents include registered name, breed, registration number, colour, height, DoB, microchip number, health test results. The CCGB have also fairly recently been given permission by the BVA AWF / RSPCA to add our logo to their Puppy Information Pack (PIP) & Contract. For each litter registered the CCGB issue a PIP with a unique litter code to the breeder in a pdf format. The breeder prints off the form to complete and add to their puppy pack.
I am the CCGB Registrar and have undertaken the task of creating this registration database from scratch. It’s been a huge amount of work and data entries, as you can imagine but in less than a year we already have well over 200 registered and papered Cockapoos.

  6. Concerned about Goldie says:

I would like to hear from anyone who has a puppy with the dam as Windanna Golden Flake / Windanna Golden Flake at Forestflame/ Goldie. She was born 14.04.03 and was not sold by the breeder to Jandaz but went through a middle person. She had her first KC litter 27.11.05 followed by another 08.02.06 and another 21.09.06. She then had cockapoo litters as far as I know and her final KC litter was 05.09.09, after which she had at least one more cockapoo litter on her next season 12 May 2010 to Tisaj’s eye candy (Duffy). Does anyone have a puppy born after that litter? Is this poor bitch in retirement yet? Has she not earned enough for Jandaz to have a loving family home to enjoy her old age?

    • Please send any information on Goldie’s litters to me ubiquelarkhill@gmail.com or in fact any pedigrees (minimum information required is the date of birth + parentage) of Jandaz cockapoos. The illegal back to back breeding and very large numbers of litters at Jandaz Kennels obviously did not stop in 2007. All information will be dealt with confidentially if required.

  7. Number Cruncher says:

Shame-on-Farms / Mills asked “Number Cruncher are you able to supply us with the number of litters registered to the KC for the past 20 odd years that Janice claims to have been a breeder ?”

My comments, that formed basis of the Jandaz Statistics of Shame post, were written after having studied the information originally posted on the Jandaz: Portrait of a Puppy Farmer post, listing the Jandaz Breeding record. I’ve received confirmation that this is an accurate summary of Jandaz Poodle litters between 2004 and 2008 taken from the Kennel Club Breeds Record Supplement produced every 3 months, recording all litters registered with the Kennel Club.

I would hope that these numbers accurately reflect the records that Jandaz are legally required to keep. If the records maintained by Jandaz are accurate, I am surprised that the Vet or the Licencing Officer from Ceridigion County Council did not question the number of litters produced each year and the number of back to back matings.

  8. Shame-on-Farms / Mills says:

I have to admit that any true open, honest, above-board, ethical, caring and concerned breeder here would actually stand up and defend their corner against such damming evidence.

Though other than a few outbursts that don’t often make the most sense and also from family members who claim not to be actively involved themselves / or on holiday ????….nothing has been answered.

I do find it hard to read that Janice Griffiths of Jandaz Cockapoos is now posting adverts with no mention to mix, type, age, sex, price etc etc…as the need to SELL is greater than the need to explain………

IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE……..WHY HIDE ?????????

I also find it very difficult to stomach the number of so called “endorsements” that have appeared on the website since Farms of Shame have posted….especially this:

“Cockapoos are very popular dogs and my experience is that owners who are entirely happy with their dogs bought them from Jandaz, and owners who have not had such a good experience always bought them from somewhere else.”

I do hope that we now have people experienced in tracking down these so called owners and asking their actual experience….the degree of “hype” is perhaps a little too sickly sweet for most………why comment now ? (….and with some so many years down the line ?)

I wonder if any of these people who have made these comments would actually come forward and post them on here ?……………to me, and I totally admit that this is my own personal thoughts on the matter…that these are as fake as the pedigrees, the ancestry, the health tests and lies that Jandaz peddle daily.

  9. Angie F says:

Please could someone have a word with Janice Griffiths of Jandaz Cockapoos about engaging brain or at least about sticking to one story ? Hopefully if it is factual then it cannot be pulled apart like this can:

    Posted 18th April 2014:
I HAVE BRED COCKAPOOS FOR APPROX 13 YEARS I HAVE BRED F1s F2s F3s AND BREEDERS WILL TELL YOU F1 IS THE BEST WELL YES THEY ARE RIGHT THE LITTER PRODUCED IS THE MOST CONSISTENT ALL PUPPIES WILL PROBERBLY BE NON MOULTING , BUT THEN F2s COCKAPOO BACK TO COCKAPOO IN THE SECOND GENERATION WELL IN MY EXPERIENCE THEY ARE A MIXED LITTER SOME COCKAPOO SOME POODLE SOME SPANIEL , BREEDERS WILL TELL YOU THE COAT WILL DEVELOP AND WILL BE NON MOULTING , IF THE PUPPY IS NOT RIGHT IN THE BEGINING IT WILL NOT BE RIGHT A YEAR LATER ! I HAVE BRED F3 PUPPIES AND I HAVE FOUND STILL SOME ARE CURLY COATED , SOME COCKAPOO AND SOME SEMI CURLY NON REALLY LOOK SPANIEL BUT WE WILL WAIT AND SEE , IF INTERESTED PLEASE GET IN TOUCH AND WE WILL TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU REALLY WANT FROM YOUR FUTURE FAMILY PET , I AM NOT ABOUT GETTING THE MOST MONEY FROM YOU I AM SHOCKED AT SOME OF THE BREEDERS ON SO CALLED APPROVED BREEDERS WEBSITES THE MONEY THE CHARGE IS UNBELIEVABLE .

This appears to contradict comments posted publicly on her own website as exposed by Farms of Shame in https://farmsofshame.wordpress.com/2013/03/28/jandaz-puppy-farming-a-litter-every-7-days-14-hours-and-2-minutes/ under “But then Janice Griffiths swears that ” Item 4 (with a claimed 15 years and a claim of being new to Cockapoos early in 2007)

If Janice Griffiths starting her Cockapoo breeding at the end of 2006 / start of 2007 as shown on her own website then that clearly is not 15 nor 13 years, more 7 !

To add to the issue with Janice Griffith’s claims, and it was asked of her on the forums a couple of years back about being able to claim F3 puppies without there being a big enough Cockapoo Gene-Pool to breed to that without …..inbreeding http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inbreeding ?

  10. Sue C says:

I believe that Janice of Jandaz knows and has supplied dogs and studs to Karen Crowley of Apsledene
Another so called ‘home breeder’ who is in fact nothing better than a home puppy farmer
She lies to potential purchasers and will state that she has bred her dog because she needed a bit of cash because she’s a single parent or something like that
Fact is in 2011 she has 13 dogs to breed from and approximately 3 litters of puppies to sell
She has been known to sell Shelties, cavaliers, cavapoos & poodles.
I had one of her cavapoos born 22/4/07
She had syringomyelia, chiari like malformation, coronoid process disease & died as a result of a rumour in her thyroid age just 6yrs
I know of cavaliers that she has bred that have died at a young age and also have the diseases mentioned above
When I bought my dog she had the mother and the puppies in her lounge, all other dogs were hidden
She’s a licensed breeder so will have to have bred a minimum of 5 litters a year, contradictory to the story she leds you to believe
Karen, her mother and her friend Lisa all sell puppies and move them around. To sell another breeders puppies she would need a pet shop licence
I feel for anyone who has bought one of her dogs as they are more or less gusranteed to be unhealthy puppies

  11. Becky James says:

Why is Jandaz able to assert on their website that they’ve been kennel club endorsed for 25 years? Factually incorrect, misleading and completely false. To the unwary, suggests they are reputable breeders, not ones who forget they bred cockerpoos from working cockers as late as 2011 although now they say they have never used working cockers and my paperwork from dog sold to me April 2011 is non existent!

  12. tracey dunn says:

I bought a poodle from janice in 2006 , his mum is black Sambo.

My little darling is now 10 years old . He has had numerous health problems over his 10 years, been hospitalised a few times. He had major surgery last september at a specialist center for an exploded disc in his spine. He recovered really well with lots of tlc. He now has a further two slipped disc’s! Thousands of pounds later and a broken heart every other month. Its been a difficult 10 years with him

He was a nervous fellow when we first got him….he still is a bit. He gets very brave only when i’m by his side. I had no idea I had bought him from a puppy farm. no idea at all. I just googled to see if any of her other puppies had health issues and found this site. I’m truely shocked
